Step 1: Check & Tighten Toilet Bolts
Sometimes, a loose connection between the tank and base causes leaks.
1️⃣ Locate the bolts at the base of the toilet.
2️⃣ Use a screwdriver & wrench to tighten them evenly.
3️⃣ Wipe the area dry and wait 15 minutes.
4️⃣ Still leaking? Time to replace the wax ring!
Step 2: Turn Off the Water & Drain the Toilet
1️⃣ Shut off the water supply valve behind the toilet. 🚰
2️⃣ Flush & hold the handle to empty the tank.
3️⃣ Use a plunger or pour a bucket of water into the bowl to force out any remaining water.
4️⃣ Disconnect the water supply line from the tank.
Pro Tip: Stuff a rag into the sewer drain to block odors while you work!
Step 3: Remove the Toilet & Old Wax Ring
1️⃣ Loosen the toilet bolts with a wrench.
2️⃣ If bolts are rusted, cut them with a hacksaw.
3️⃣ Gently rock the toilet side to side to break the old seal.
4️⃣ Lift the toilet & set it on its side (get help if needed!).
5️⃣ Scrape off the old wax ring using a putty knife—remove all residue!
Step 4: Install a New Wax Ring & Reattach the Toilet
1️⃣ Position the new wax ring over the flange.
2️⃣ Remove the rag from the drain before setting the toilet back in place.
3️⃣ Align the toilet base with the bolts and lower it gently.
4️⃣ Press down firmly to create a watertight seal.
5️⃣ Tighten bolts evenly—don't overtighten, or you may crack the porcelain!
6️⃣ Replace bolt caps for a finished look.
Step 5: Reconnect Water & Test for Leaks
1️⃣ Reconnect the water supply line.
2️⃣ Turn the water back on and let the tank fill.
3️⃣ Flush the toilet & check for leaks around the base.
4️⃣ If dry, congrats! You just fixed your toilet! 🎉
Step 6: Clean Up & Disinfect
✔ Wipe down the entire area with disinfectant cleaner.
✔ Mop the floor to remove any leftover water.
✔ Double-check for leaks over the next 24 hours.
Pro Tip: If leaks persist, your toilet flange may be damaged—consider replacing it
